Welcome back to Aussie Roots! In today's episode, we're exploring the fascinating world of Jerusalem Artichokes, also known as sunchokes. These plants are full of surprises – they're not from Jerusalem, nor are they artichokes! Originating from North America, their name is a quirky result of language mix-up, from 'girasole' to 'Jerusalem'.
As members of the sunflower family, Jerusalem Artichokes boast stunning yellow flowers and are incredibly hardy, thriving even in Queensland's diverse climate. But there's more to them than just beauty. Growing up to 3 metres tall, they serve as a natural windbreak in the garden, offering protection to other plants.
In this video, I'll take you through my journey of growing Jerusalem Artichokes in light, well-draining soil. They're not demanding plants – a bit of sunlight, good mulching, and regular watering are all they need to flourish.
Join me as we uncover the joys of growing, cooking, and enjoying Jerusalem Artichokes – a true gem in the garden. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more gardening adventures. Happy gardening, and see you in the next video!
