It’s a bumper harvest, too! This is such an unusual tree. Even if you don’t like the taste, Jaboticaba trees are always a conversation starter.
They’re not the rarest fruit tree out there but they’re unusual enough to draw attention. Those big, purple fruits grow straight on the trunk and branches. Not many other trees can claim this feat!

Their taste reminds of a cross between a lychee, a hint of pineapple, maybe some banana thrown in. If it wasn’t for the tough skin and big seed inside, I’d be snacking on them all day.
They do make a delicious jam if you have a good way of getting the seeds out. My dad is about to make a batch of Jaboticaba jam – I’ll share some photos with you once it’s done.
My tree isn’t very tall, which makes the fruit very easy to harvest. I haven’t seen Jaboticaba trees get very tall at all, so they’re a great fruit tree to plant in small spaces. It requires hardly any care. My tree happily grows and fruits without fertiliser or pruning.
All it needs is some water when it gets really dry and I like to give it a decent bunch of mulch every year. Usually, this is just a few loads from the mower catcher. Cane trash bales went up to $5 each which, considering I was putting out 100 bales at least once a year, gets way too expensive.
I’ll share some more photos with you now.
